GAI (Generative AI)

ChatGPT and similar tools like Bard, Anthropic’s Claude, and Bing Chat utilize generative AI (GAI) technology to quickly produce coherent language in various styles, formats, and tones. GAI technology leverages large language models (LLMs) trained on huge datasets to generate human-like text, making it useful for content creation, communication, and creative writing tasks. GAI-powered chatbots can produce comprehensive, cohesive essays, catchy social media blurbs, or detailed outlines in seconds.

What are the sources of Chatgpt and other GAI bots?
OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, has not publicly disclosed the specifics of the individual datasets used, however, it’s known that the model was trained on a diverse range of text sources, which includes a broad spectrum of publicly available information on the internet.

On May 16, Reddit announced a partnership with OpenAI to provide its content to the widely-used chatbot, ChatGPT. This news led to a 12% increase in Reddit’s shares during extended trading. The collaboration highlights Reddit’s strategy to expand beyond its advertising revenue, coming on the heels of a recent partnership with Google to make its content available for training Google’s AI models or Google’s SERPs. Similarly, ChatGPT has also teamed up with LinkedIn Pulse and Quora, integrating their articles into its training dataset.

GDPR

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) impacts all touchpoints and data analytics . It affects the way you should implement cookies and also the way your users will be subscribed to your newsletters.

Questions

What is GDPR?

The GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU. The regulation has been in effect since May 25, 2018.

Is GDPR still apply to me given that I'm a US-based company?

Yes, the GDPR is valid for you even if you are an American company. The GDPR applies to any organization that processes the personal data of individuals located in the European Union, regardless of the organization's location. This means that even if your company is located in the United States, you may still be required to comply with the GDPR if you collect or process the personal data of EU residents.

Is the UK eligible for the same law given BREXIT?
Yes, the UK is eligible given Brexit. The UK GDPR is the UK's implementation of the GDPR. It came into effect on 1 January 2021, after the UK left the EU. The UK GDPR is largely the same as the GDPR, but there are some differences. For example, the UK GDPR does not include the EU's "one-stop shop" mechanism, which allows individuals to complain to a data protection authority in any EU member state where their data is processed.

The UK GDPR applies to any organization that processes the personal data of individuals located in the UK, regardless of the organization's location. This means that even if your company is located outside of the UK, you may still be required to comply with the UK GDPR if you collect or process the personal data of UK residents.
What are the main requirements under this law?
The GDPR sets out a number of requirements for organizations that process personal data, including the following:

(a) Obtaining consent from individuals before collecting or processing their personal data (b) Providing individuals with access to their personal data and the right to have it corrected or deleted

(c) Taking steps to protect personal data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or destruction and (d) Reporting data breaches to data protection authorities within 72 hours

Generation Beta

Welcome to the world, dear newborns! You are officially part of Generation Beta. We, the previous generations, have made strides in harnessing AI to take care of the tedious tasks, freeing you to focus on meaningful and creative endeavors.

Personalized Education

Education for Generation Beta will be highly customized, with AI-driven learning systems adapting to their unique learning styles and preferences.

Immersive technologies like VR could redefine classroom experiences.

Greater Longevity

Advances in medicine, biotechnology, and preventative healthcare could mean that Generation Beta will have longer lifespans and healthier lives.

They might witness the normalization of technologies like organ regeneration and AI-assisted healthcare.

Social Dynamics

Family structures and gender norms will continue to evolve, with Generation Beta growing up in an era where diversity and inclusivity are prioritized.

Social media dynamics might shift from screen-based platforms to immersive, community-driven experiences in virtual environments.

Economic Expectations

With automation and AI reshaping jobs, Generation Beta will need to focus on creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, skills that are less susceptible to automation.

Entrepreneurship and freelance work might be more prevalent in their economic reality.

Health Awareness

They will likely grow up with an emphasis on mental health and wellness, with tools and resources to monitor and support their emotional well-being integrated into daily life.
What's the connection of Generation Beta and marketing personas?
Generation Beta will redefine the relationship between consumers and brands, necessitating a shift in how marketing personas are constructed. By aligning with their values—sustainability, personalization, and technological innovation—marketers can create personas that resonate deeply with this emerging generation, ensuring long-term brand loyalty and relevance.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is an emerging term in the digital marketing landscape. Similar to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and App Store Optimization (ASO), GEO involves optimizing content specifically for AI-driven search engines, known as generative engines. These engines, powered by large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, synthesize information from multiple sources to deliver comprehensive and personalized responses to user queries.

Questions

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is an emerging term in the digital marketing landscape. Similar to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and App Store Optimization (ASO), GEO involves optimizing content specifically for AI-driven search engines, known as generative engines. These engines, powered by large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, synthesize information from multiple sources to deliver comprehensive and personalized responses to user queries.

Are traditional SEO strategies such as Surround Sound SEO and Micro-monopoly affecting GEO?
Generative engines excel at creating cohesive and innovative content by synthesizing vast amounts of information. By building a micromonopoly, you create a specialized niche where your content becomes the authoritative source. Surround Sound SEO complements this by ensuring your content appears across multiple top-ranking pages, rather than just aiming for the top spot on search engines.

Combining the principles of building a micromonopoly with the theory of Surround Sound SEO offers a robust strategy to enhance Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). This approach not only helps you dominate a niche but also ensures that your content is highly visible and consistently utilized by generative engines.

Google Search Console

It used to be called Google WebMaster Tools , and it was renamed to Google Search Console in late 2023. Google Search Console is free and provided by Google to help website owners, SEO marketers, and developers monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot their site’s presence in Google Search results. It offers insights into how a website is performing on google, identifies issues that might affect rankings, and provides data to optimize content for better visibility.

Questions

What is Google Search Console?
It used to be called Google WebMaster Tools, and it was renamed to Google Search Console in late 2023.
What's the most important information I can get from Google Search Console?
What Keywords People Use: See what search terms people type on Google that lead them to your website.

Page Indexing: Check if your pages are indexed and visible on Google.

Crawling Issues: Find out if Google can access your pages or if there are errors like "404 Page Not Found."

Site Performance: Learn how often people click on your site from search results and how well your pages rank.

Mobile Usability: Ensure your site works well on mobile devices.
Is connecting GSC with Looker Studio needed?

Connecting Google Search Console (GSC) with Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) is not required. Still, it can be beneficial if you want to create custom visual reports of your website’s search performance.

Is there any way to enhance visualizations in GSC?
For that reason, we use the below Chrome extensions in GrowthRocks. They are nice extensions, adding up a lot of functionality.

* Advanced GSC Visualizer

* Agital - GSC Calculations

* Gandalf - Custom Metric Filtering
Is it mandatory to have GSC for my website?

Having Google Search Console (GSC) for your website is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended if you care about your site’s visibility on Google Search.

Is integrating with GA mandatory?

Integrating Google Search Console (GSC) with Google Analytics (GA) is not mandatory, but it can be very beneficial for gaining deeper insights into your website’s performance. If you care about analysing your organic traffic (and you should) that's a must.

Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Not to be confused with Go-To-Market (also known with the abbreviation GTM).

Questions

What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free tool from Google that makes it easy to manage and update tracking codes (called "tags") on your website or app without needing to edit the actual code.

Think of it like it’s a control panel where you can add or change things like:

Analytics tracking (to see how users interact with your site)

Conversion tracking (to measure sales or sign-ups)

Marketing tools (like Facebook Pixel or Google Ads tracking)

Do I need to install GTM?

Yes, because instead of asking a developer to make changes, you just use GTM to add or update tags directly, saving time and effort.

Should my webapp and website to share the same google tag manager?
The answer depends on how you want to manage and track your data:

Yes, Use the Same Google Tag Manager (GTM) Container

If your web app and website serve the same purpose or are closely connected (e.g., they are part of the same user journey), using the same GTM container can simplify management. You’ll have a centralized place to control tags, triggers, and variables, making it easier to track user behavior across both platforms consistently.

No, Use Separate GTM Containers

If your web app and website serve different audiences, have distinct functionalities, or require separate tracking setups, using separate GTM containers can prevent unnecessary complexity. It also allows you to tailor each container to the specific needs of the platform. In most cases, sharing the same GTM container works well, but evaluate based on your specific needs.

Google's Query Suggest API

Some things (!) by Google are undocumented. Well, that's one of them :-)

Questions

What is Google's Query Suggest API

Google's Query Suggest API is an internal, undocumented API used by Google to provide autocomplete suggestions when users type search queries into the search bar. It is what powers the Google Autocomplete feature in Google Search, Google Chrome, and other Google products.

How Google's Query Suggest API work?
When a user starts typing a search query, Google's Query Suggest API returns a list of predicted search terms based on:

Popular searches related to the typed query

Search trends based on real-time data

User’s previous searches (if signed in)

Geographical location (if enabled)
How can I access Google's Query Suggest API?
Though Google does not officially document or provide public access to the API, developers have found that it can be accessed via the following endpoint:

https://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=your_query

Replace your_query with the term you want suggestions for.

The client=firefox parameter is often used because it was historically required to get JSON-formatted results.

Example Response

If you query:

https://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=apple

The response is typically in JSON format:

["apple", ["apple store", "apple watch", "apple id", "apple music", "apple stock"]]

This means that Google suggests:

"apple store"

"apple watch"

"apple id"

"apple music"

"apple stock"
Known limitations
As an unofficial API call, it comes with some limitations

Unofficial API: Google can change or block access at any time.

Rate Limits: Excessive requests might get blocked.

No Official Documentation provided: No support or guarantees of stability.

Growth Funnel

The term "growth funnel" expands on the traditional sales funnel concept by focusing specifically on strategies and processes that aim to drive growth at each stage of the funnel. It incorporates not just the acquisition of new customers but also emphasizes retention, engagement, and referral mechanisms to fuel sustainable growth. The growth funnel is particularly relevant in digital marketing and growth hacking contexts, where the emphasis is on rapid experimentation and scalable growth tactics.
While a traditional sales or marketing funnel might focus more on the linear path of converting a lead into a customer, a growth funnel also includes post-purchase behaviors that contribute to business growth, such as upselling, cross-selling, customer loyalty, and advocacy.

Is funnel and growth funnel synonyms?
In marketing terminology, the terms "growth funnel" and "funnel" are related but not exactly synonyms. Both concepts are part of a broader strategy to understand and enhance the customer journey.

So, while related, "funnel" and "growth funnel" are not strict synonyms. The former provides a foundational model for understanding customer acquisition, while the latter applies a more comprehensive approach to achieving business growth by optimizing every stage of the customer journey, including post-purchase engagement. You can read more on growth funnels and the role that content plays at conversions here

Growth Loop

A Growth Loop is a self-reinforcing system where each new customer helps attract the next one. Unlike a traditional marketing funnel, which ends with a conversion, a growth loop feeds back into itself through referrals, user-generated content, product sharing, or network effects. The stronger the loop, the more sustainable and scalable your growth becomes.

Questions

Is attention more valuable than advertising budget?

A large budget can buy impressions, but it can't guarantee attention. Brands that consistently create content people want to watch, share, and remember often outperform competitors spending far more on ads. In today's market, earning attention is becoming a stronger competitive advantage than simply buying it.

Growth Plan

A Growth Plan with all the channels to be explored and the relevant cost of paid channels (all based on the baseline )

A Growth Plan helps us to separate the NOW, the LATER, the MAYBE, and the NEVER - some things can work right away, like driving traffic through minimal spend on Google AdWords. Other things take time to build, like generating a meaningful Facebook audience. So get started on the long game - building an audience, SEO - while moving quickly on the immediate - paid search, events, pitches, coffees.

So now that you know what a Growth Plan is and why you need one, the question of how you can establish a working one that is unique, agile, and tailored to your business needs. There are three main requirements that you must account for to do this.

First, it must be dynamic. If you only use averages to build your Growth Plan, it will only account for expected behavior and fail to report on external factors that may lead to a spike or dip..

Second, it must be inclusive. You must be able to report on all conversions made, not just those by people who are exposed to your marketing. Without this data, it is impossible to have a Growth Plan.

Finally, your Growth Plan must be integrated into all attribution computations. If you even once ignore it, your marketing attribution is no longer valid.
Creating a growth plan for your marketing is no small task, but to accurately measure your marketing efforts, it is essential to create a dynamic, inclusive, and integrated one.
With an accurate Growth Plan, you can uncover new insights about each of your marketing channels well beyond determining the sources of conversions
